MFT-Crow to Headstand back to Crow

Video of me doing crow to a headstand back to crow

Key points:

  • Master crow first
  • Try a tripod headstand
  • Trust yourself
  • When you have crow mastered let yourself lean forward bringing the top of your head to the mat. Use a spotter your first few times
  • Use your abdominal muscles
  • Keep your knees together. Abs engaged and start to lift your legs. First start with them bent
  • Then work on straightening your legs. Hold
  • Slowly lower keeping your knees together and legs bent
  • Find contact with your knees on your triceps. Feel this out.
  • Then when you have built core & shoulder strength grip your hands into the mat and lift your head looking forward.
  • Find your balance and hold!

Let me know if you have any questions or new poses you’d like me to show!

About Me

I grew up in a family of wrestlers—dad and two brothers. I spent countless hours watching my dad coach and my brothers’ practice. I took gymnastics lessons; I took swimming lessons; and I took ballet lessons (I’m still trying to forget about the ballet). When I was about nine years old and watching yet another intensive wrestling workout I declared to may parents that I wanted to sweat, too. I did not want to become a wrestler. I wanted to play soccer. I spent the next thirteen years of my life training and playing soccer year-round including a successful career as a scholarship player for the University of Illinois. The desire to sweat continued, but I was never really completely satisfied until I stumbled onto a hot yoga class. The discovery of hot yoga transformed my passion for physical and mental well-being and I committed to combine it with my athletic experience and adventurous spirit to bring the benefit to others. Between my junior and senior years at Illinois I studied under Jacqueline Heisel at Frog Lotus Yoga and I received my 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher credentials. After graduation, I completed my 500-hour Yoga Alliance certification at Sunstone Yoga under the direction of Nicole Shaw. I am committed to coaching my teachers to be the best they can be and to coaching my clients to achieve their fitness goals. And, I am personally committed to sweating every day.

“The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours – it is an amazing journey – and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.” ― Bob Moawad
